A REVIEW OF THE FPV MODEL SCHOONER “IRENE”. IN THIS REVIEW, WE HAVE A LOOK AT THE BACKGROUND OF THE BUILDER, AND EXAMINE THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF THIS MODEL, INCLUDING A COMPLETE INTERIOR, AND THE ANAMATRONIC TEDDY BEAR THAT STEERS THE BOAT. DESIGNED BY GARY WEBB, THIS MODEL IS THE SECOND IN A SERIES OF PROTOTYPE MODELS FOR WHICH PLANS WILL BE PUBLISHED. THE MODEL IS BUILT OF DOORSKIN PLYWOOD, AND EPOXY GLUE, AND FINISHED IN TRADITIONAL VARNISH, AND ENAMEL PAINT. IN A PERFECT COMBINATION OF OLD WORLD ENGINEERING, AND COMPUTER AGE TECHNOLOGY, FPV CAMERA ANGLES ARE USED TO CAPTURE THE BEAR SAILING, AND SHOW THE WATER, AND SURROUNDINGS FROM A NEW PERSPECTIVE NEVER BEFORE SEEN QUITE LIKE THIS. THE PERFORMANCE OF THE SCHOONER HAS BEEN VERY GOOD, AND WE HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS VIDEO, AND OTHERS TO COME FEATURING THIS UNIQUE BOAT SAILING. LOOK FOR IT SOON ON THE BEAROSPACE CHANNEL AS WELL, AS WE ARE NEARLY FINISHED RECORDING SOME FOOTAGE FOR ANOTHER BEAR TAILS EPISODE USING THE SCHOONER, AND SOME OTHER MODEL BOATS. THE AERIAL SHOTS OF IT SAILING AT THE END WERE DONE WITH A DJI PHANTOM. WE HOPE YOU ENJOY A BIT OF SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH THIS UNIQE FPV PLATFORM.
THANKS FOR WATCHING, AND BE SURE TO SUBSCRIBE TO THIS CHANNEL, AND THE BEAROSPACE CHANNEL, SO YOU DON’T MISS ANYTHING!

This and Gary’s videos at sailtails on YouTube got me started a year ago. My model sails so nicely! My complete build log is at http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2550991. You can build this boat!
very cool guys, loved the bear:)
Gow do you make the hole for the rudder not leak water too bad?
That is just the most beautiful boat. You must be proud of your Dad – and he should be proud too.
I have the Emma plans and now I gotta buy the plans for Irene!
Noel
your dad is blessed , amazing and what a nice family u are 🙂
I am building a Colin Archer Carvel Plank. Finished the Hull. I only wish that this video was not here!!!! I have now decided to finish the interior, close to your finish, or try to do it. I too get a lot of pleasure building boats, the temptation is always to rush to get the next part done, I’m slowly realising that you can’t. Anyway thank you for sharing your expertise with me and the world. You loose me when you talk to your son about righting moments, centre of effort, centre of gravity etc. I think this is knowledge you have picked up with your profession.
You make great boat! Can you make one for me at US$150
Gary is a very talented man, years ago when I saw Sparkle, his home/ sailboat, the simplicity of the boat was amazing, all systems were practical and efficient, this model shows his skill too.
I want to build this boat!
Art work, like all you guys do!! Love to both, Victor
There is nothing like a 3 sided taper, I ,also used old surf fishing rod after I took the guides off.
fantástico. muy bonito.
Absolutely LOVELY ! The Harbor Donkey is also FINE. The girl & bear are cute touches. 2 thumbs up !! Pop, you sure are a WOOD MAGICIAN…Thanks for sharing !
From a Chesapeake Skipjack RV builder– Save time- go to Wally-World and buy a cheap cue stick. It has the most beautiful taper and all you have to do is sand it off and stain and varnish to your liking
Wow! Some of us out here try to build model boats. For me and many others, they are from kits. What your dad did is simply amazing. Don’t know whether to be envious, discouraged or simply in awe. Think I’ll settle on the latter. Beautiful boat. And thanks for sharing.
Fantastic boat! Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed this video and I gave me some ideas to try on my next build. Wonderful job!
Is there a sail winch in the model? I didn’t see any mention of how the sheets are controlled in the video.. ..?
Very nice!
