Pontoon ski test- How much power is enough.

We are often asked “How much horsepower do I need?”. Ultimately that is a personal decision. We hope this short clip helps you to answer that question. The skier weight 190lbs. The boat is a 2008 Premier 20′ pontoon. The engine is a Suzuki 90Hp Four stroke.

Thanks for the video, I’m stressing over figuring what size engine to get with a 23-25′ pontoon boat.  Thinking 115 or 140 hp. Looks like I won’t be disappointed.  Thanks so much for this review.

I have a 1989 Kayot 24′ pontoon with a 120 HP 2-stroke Johnson and it can’t pull shit. Just had the carbs rebuilt and new plugs and wires and still slow!

Ryan says:

Ya I’m not sure about coast guard as I am on fresh water lakes in Manitoba. I ended up with a 23′ pontoon with a 140 Suzuki and it pulls me with ease. I actually needed to tell my wife to slow down as the boat will pull me at about 38mph. It does 42 with just a driver. Love it.

Thanks for this info.

Very good video, that boat is fairly nimble for being a floating barge

I’ve seen those tow bars on pontoon boats (like the one in the video) and I cant understand how they’re strong enough for tubing/skiing…..
